This Fishing Scandal Has Weights Getting Stuffed Into Fish

Things are obviously testy, and then, someone pulls out a knife, cuts the fish open, and some weights do, indeed, come out. At one point, it was discovered they stuffed a walleye fillet into one of the fishes to add weight. By analyzing the fluid dynamics of water as it passes along the hull and its various appendages, it’s possible to reduce performance-robbing drag. Each of these computer technologies, combined with fluid-dynamics analysis and testing platforms within the software, has given modern hull design a space-age boost of improvement. Basically, a naval architect can predict—and prove—how the boat will run when given a certain weight and horsepower directly on the computer screen, long before the first bit of glass or timber is ever applied to the build. Maybe we should try to fish the kingfish and wahoo tournaments?

I grew up in a small city in Germany, and I remember being so curious about the world even as a kid. I’ve always had an interest in wanting to learn new languages and meet people from different places. I knew that one day I wanted to travel to as many places as I could. This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Theresa Feulner, who works remotely as a psychologist while traveling the world in a sailboat.

I knew that Merritt was on to something interesting with this discussion.

It also lobbies against saiko and pushes for Ghana to address illegal fishing through stronger monitoring and enforcement of laws. Every day, streams of children make their way towards Cape Coast’s fishing port from the surrounding communities. While some are dressed in school uniforms, others have ropes slung around their small frames, ready to work. I think it’s because so many of the clients I happen to work with also travel a lot themselves or are expats living somewhere else. I think they’re quite used to this travel lifestyle, and most aren’t surprised by my living situation.

For example, when it comes to showering, we usually just jump into the sea to get clean. We also have this little camping shower that we’ll use a few times a week since we don’t have hot or filtered water. The other major adjustment was sleeping in a cabin where it feels like you’re constantly moving, but it’s something I got used to quickly and now the slight movement makes me feel calm.

how to not get seasick on a fishing boat

Technology has done so much for boating and fishing, and this is yet another example of analytics proving the benefits of science. In this case, the inclusion of wake-adapted propellers, struts and rudders offers things every boat should have in terms of improved hull efficiency, reduced vibration, less noise, and as a result, even greater speed. But sometimes low-tech is best, and there are plenty of older charter boats up and down the East Coast that still use the basics.
