Your best bet is to match the worm color to what the fish are eating and you’re on the way to catching fish. In 2009, the world of bass fishing was permanently changed with the creation of the Megabass Vision 110. For the first time, there were realistic-looking jerkbaits with great action readily available and the result was apparent. Anglers from across the country started dialing in deep-water fish with a bait that could be worked slow or fast. Since then, the jerkbait market has been flooded with realistic options, but the Megabass still reigns king. I find the action of this bait sets it apart from others.
David Powell at the lake office said crappie are biting jigs tipped with a piece of live worm. Black bass are starting to hit spinner baits. Finding the best bait for largemouth is not as straightforward as it seems. It depends on the conditions to find the right lure. If you find a solid lure for finesse fishing and a good moving bait, you can cover nearly all conditions. A lot of anglers are getting antsy for perch to come in. Large barred surfperch tend to stay out away from pier structures, more so than other species of perch, preferring instead to forage throughout the sandy flats of the surf zone. Surf fishing for them with small sand crabs is a time-honored technique, but they can also be caught from piers.
Class outfit, make a medium cast, and take up the slack. Then pin a small lively perch, mackerel or jacksmelt on one of the leaders, close the snap swivel over the main line of the rig just cast out, and send the live bait down the line. Other fish that may be feeding near the surface include jacksmelt and mackerel. These are good eating when cleaned quickly, kept cold, and cooked that evening.
Bass are attracted by a variety of things such as vibration, smell, and sight. Of all these vibration and smell are the most important. For moving baits, lures with a lot of vibration can attract fish from far off.
Anytime I can pull aside and enjoy the public lands, I think it’s helpful. It also helps for long-term sustainability. As it swims downward it will work the entire water column. Send another live bait leader down that same line periodically until it pays off with a halibut, bass, shark or other glory fish. Favorite baits seem to vary from one angler to the next and from one fish to the next, but mussels, worms, shrimp, and small pieces of fish or squid are common. Little pieces of meat leftover from last night’s dinner, as well as vegetable offerings such as frozen peas are also good baits.

You can fish this lure in a variety of ways including on an EWG hook like you’d fish any other bass worm. However, adding this to a drop shot rig is the best for consistently getting bites.
