After the show, a small meet and greet was held where Berens took photos, signed autographs and talked with fans. The midwest comedian started with crowd interactions, immediately calling out attendees who arrived late. Knowledgeable wolf researchers weren’t surprised by the Wisconsin wolves’ resiliency, especially in light of what occurred last year with wolves in Montana and Idaho. When wolves returned to Wisconsin in the mid-1970s, they were listed as a state endangered species.
Laurance Reed continues his good stretch of fall fishing on the Chicago lakefront. Fall trout season for catchable rainbow trout opened Saturday and accounts were generally decent on a wide variety of presentations. No. 3 Ohio State (3-0) has yielded only 2.6 yards per run this year, but only Notre Dame even tried to sustain a running game against the Buckeyes.
Making his first start, freshman Conner Weigman finished with 338 yards and four TDs with no picks. The last Fisher QB to post 300 yards and four touchdown throws in a game? The Trojans haven’t played anyone of note other than Utah, and they lost that game. They struggled for long stretches against Oregon State, Arizona State and Saturday against Arizona, though they ultimately prevailed in each one. Caleb Williams has been good, Travis Dye is terrific and Jordan Addison and Mario Williams make for a dynamic duo that would surely attract a big audience for the postseason.
Boston College shanks punt 17 yards
In the Big Ten opener for both teams, it will be an early test of the toughness that Ohio State coach Ryan Day has emphasized since the end of last season. Ruffed grouse hunting in southern Wisconsin is usually more about squirrels, turkeys or white-tailed deer than grouse. Several times during the past years some forces were guarding a building, school, street location or football stadium were Wisconsin’s conservation wardens standing side by side with a county deputy sheriff. When COVID-19 entered, this meant wardens and hunters needed to stay their distances. Some license checks were done with a hunter up in a tree stand the warden some feet away, but on the ground.
Ohio State opened the week as a 17.5-point favorite against Wisconsin. Now that number is up to 19.5 points ahead of Saturday night’s prime-time game. He and a few of his teammates came out of the tunnel for pregame warmups and saw a group of Wisconsin players on the Buckeyes’ side of the field, and told them to get out of the way.
Some Wisconsin bear hunters who hunt with dogs were especially bitter. They had lost 40 of their hounds to wolf attacks in 2016. The excess wolves were killed, the DNR said, because Wisconsin state law requires hunters to have 24-hour notice before a season ends, thus hindering the agency’s ability to put the brakes on the hunt once the rapid harvest pace was realized. But after U.S. management of wolves was lifted in the final months of the Trump presidency, a Kansas-based hunting group sued the Wisconsin DNR, saying state law required it to hold a hunt. The disappointment that resonated across the country on a recent day, originating from Madison, Wis., didn’t concern the firing of Badgers football coach Paul Chryst, following a home loss to Illinois, of all embarrassments. “Wisconsin needs a miracle to beat Ohio State,” ESPN analyst and former college football coach Lee Corso said.
This is a different Buckeyes team, and Saturday proved they can roll around in the mud with anyone and come out still looking incredible. It was apparent from the season’s opening notes that Ohio State was on a collision course with Michigan, eager to erase the misery of last year’s loss. But last season, Ohio State was all glitz and glamor and, underneath, had no real substance. Still, if there were questions about this Ohio State team, Saturday went a long way to answering them. In one of the photos, which was received by the Sentinel, several players have their sports bras lifted during the team’s private celebration after winning the Big Ten title in November.
Georgia went up 21-0, Florida fought back to within eight after the Bulldogs got bored, then UGA stomped on the gas one last time to seal the deal. It was emblematic of the bulk of Georgia’s résumé thus far, in which, aside from the opener against Oregon, virtually nothing has felt particularly close or particularly dominant. In the end, UConn earned its first win over a Power 5 opponent since 2016 (vs. Virginia, because of course). The Huskies have four wins now this season, which is particularly impressive considering they had won just four of their previous 41. Now Virginia, which was among the most prolific offenses in the country a year ago, and its receivers react to passes like trick-or-treaters do candy corn (“Ah, yes, no thank you, we’ll just leave this on the ground”).
